MacFIBS Installer

The current release of MacFIBS is 4.5.3. Check the Version History page for a complete list of fixes and features in this release, and the Known Problems page for late information.

This version of MacFIBS requires a PowerPC Macintosh and Mac OS 8.6 or later, including Mac OS X (Classic mode). Owners of older Macs should download MacFIBS 3, see next section.

Note: If you are using Netscape, when you click this link, Netscape may think this is a page to display in your browser window. If this happens, you should Option-click the link, or click-hold and choose to save the link in a file.

Older Versions

If you are a 68K Mac owner, the last version that works on your computer is version 3. PowerPC users may also run this version, although I strongly encourage you to use the latest version instead. If you are running System 7.x or earlier, you should download this version of MacFIBS.

Custom Boards

MacFIBS users (version 4.5 or later) can choose from a variety of beautiful backgammon boards, with different designs and sizes.

MacFIBS contains five boards, and you can download other custom boards created by MacFIBS users--all of whom have much more artistic talent than yours truly!

You can also create your own MacFIBS boards. I provide information about how to create boards, and am happy to assist in any way I can.

Backgammon Play-O-Matic

Backgammon Play-O-Matic is a companion program for MacFIBS users who want to save and replay games. It was created by John Baro:

"Backgammon Play-O-Matic is a program that can be used to replay games that have been saved as a "move list file" by a FIBS program. If you're a serious computer-backgammon-playing type, you already know about FIBS; if not, this program is probably not for you. All you have to do is open a move list file and watch as a piece of backgammon history unfolds before your very eyes. What could be simpler?

I would also like to mention that I consider this a beta version. I'd like to hear comments, suggestions, and bug reports. I don't think there are any bugs left, but it hasn't been tested that extensively yet. The only problems it may still have are with files it has trouble interpreting. If you run across a moves file it chokes on, please let me know at jabaro@cotf.edu"
