| Creating a new user account
If this is your first time playing backgammon on the Internet you will need to register on the FIBS server. There is no charge to register or play on FIBS. Once you have created a user name, you can play or watch matches on the FIBS server. Choosing a user name and password Before you register, you must choose a user name and password. Only A-Z, a-z, and _ (underscore) are allowed in user names. Numbers are not permitted in user names. User names must be 16 characters or less. Passwords may be any reasonable length. IMPORTANT: Both user names and passwords are case sensitive. The user names "Sue", "sue", and "SUE" are all different. Be precise when you choose your new user name and password. Registering your user name and password After connecting to the Internet and launching MacFIBS, use the File > Register command to register your name and password on the server. Enter your chosen user name and password in the window and click Register. You should then see several lines of messages in the Terminal window. Read the text in the Terminal window to determine whether your user name was successfully registered. In particular, if the user name you chose is already used by someone else, the registration process will indicate an error. You should select a different name and try again. IMPORTANT: If nothing appears in the Terminal window, you have not connected to the FIBS server, and your user name and password will not be registered. Refer to the troubleshooting section for more information about connecting to the server. The Use Keychain option If you are running Mac OS 9 or later, you may see an additional checkbox titled Use Keychain in the Register window. This option allows you to store your FIBS user name and password in a Mac OS Keychain. For more information about how to create and use Keychains, refer to the Mac OS Help. You can enable or disable the Use Keychain option in the Network section of the Preferences window. Related topic |
