Backgammon Servers

The following servers are all places to play backgammon live on the Internet.

FIBS The First Internet Backgammon Server, is the oldest and most popular backgammon server on the Internet. Access is free, and while clients are available for several platforms, only a simple telnet connection is needed in order to play. MS-Windows users can download the FIBS/W software for an improved interface to FIBS. There's also a collection of sounds for use with FIBS/W, supplied by Mark Ferrante.
The official FIBS Status Page to keep you up-to-date on the current state of FIBS.

NOBS The New Other Backgammon Server, is a stripped-down imitation of FIBS written, as the author says, as "an alternative for those horrible times when FIBS is unavailable. It is run by Spider (Lou Poppler).
Netgammon is a fee-based commercial backgammon server in France. Their client software is required, and is only available for Windows.
Games Grid is a fee-based commercial server run by CyberArts, Inc. Their client software is required.

Backgammon Software

Gnu Backgammon a free (GPLed) backgammon program that is very strong
Jellyfish formerly the best commercial backgammon software available
Snowie At least as good, if not better. For serious students of the game only.
