Installing MacFIBS

To run MacFIBS, you must be connected to the Internet with the following:

1 a PowerPC Macintosh or Mac clone computer with six megabytes or more available RAM. MacFIBS works great on the iMac.
2 a color monitor (for best results, set your monitor to millions of colors)
3 System 7 or later. Mac OS 8 and 9 are fully supported.
4 MacTCP 2.0 or Open Transport 1.1 (preferred)

Internet connections

Not all Internet connections will work with MacFIBS. In particular, if you work at a company that has an Internet firewall, you may not be able to use MacFIBS. If you are not sure, check with your network administrator.

MacFIBS is compatible with MacPPP and SLIP for dialup TCP connections. However, MacFIBS will not work on a dialup "dumb terminal" connection. If you are not sure what you have, please check with your network administrator.

Your first time?

The first time you launch the MacFIBS application, it will display the Preferences window to allow you to enter your user name and other information. After that, you can change preferences at any time by selecting Edit > Preferences...

You will also need to select a board file the first time MacFIBS starts up. After that, MacFIBS automatically remembers the last board file you used and open that when it starts.

Installing the MacFIBS Help file

Starting with Mac OS 8.5, Apple supports a new HTML based help system. MacFIBS Help (which you are reading right now), is designed to work with the Apple Help Viewer or with a regular browser.

If you use the Apple Help Viewer, you can also search this help documentation using the Search feature at the top of the Help Viewer window.
