FIBS culture

Like the rest of the Internet, FIBS has its own culture, customs and etiquette. Please be sensitive to this when you play. More experienced players are usually happy to help new players learn how FIBS works.

FIBS Administrators

Unlike other backgammon servers, there are no regular sysops who monitor the server. Patti Beadles runs the server itself (and she does play on FIBS regularly), but she does not have the time to arbitrate or resolve player problems. Thus you are largely "on your own" on FIBS.

Chatting

FIBS is a social community, and many people spend hours on FIBS without ever playing a match. They log in just to participate in the online chat. Discussions are not limited to backgammon, but often cover current events, politics, movies, and of course, gossip about other players. Chatting is a good way to get known in the FIBS community, and to find out who's who.

Gambling

FIBS does not directly support gambling, so you would need to make arrangements directly with your opponent if you wish to do so. Other backgammon servers (including GamesGrid) are set up to handle money play, and are popular with backgammon gamblers.

Tournaments

Several people sponsor tournaments on FIBS (these normally require an entrance fee and have cash prizes for the top finishers.) Refer to the FIBS Web site for more information. You should make sure you understand the rules and expectations of tournament play, the tournament director should provide you with this information.
