JavaFIBS 2001 v1.011 (1.3 MB) is available. It is compatible with Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Solaris and others. This release was tested on Windows XPSP2, Ubuntu Linux 7.1 and OSX 10.5, and with Java Runtimes 1.3.0, 1.3.1, 1.4.2, 1.5.0 and 1.6.0 successfully.

You will need Java installed on your computer to be able to use it. All Java versions from JRE 1.3 up are supported, but we recommened to use the latest and greatest available version. At the time of this writing this is Java 1.6.0_05, which was also used during development. This will be the last release of JavaFIBS 2001 to maintain compatibility with Java versions prior to Java 1.5.0.

To upgrade an existing installation, simply unzip the contents of the version 1.011 archive over your existing installation of at least version 1.005. If you had installed Version 1.011 we recommend to remove the "images" and "boards" folders before, as this release was purged from unsupported and buggy boards that erraneously shipped with version 1.010. This will free about 1.3 MB of disk space permanently. Needless to mention it is good practice before such updates to backup the original files. All user files, such as preferences, lists of friends and villains, and saved matches, are binary compatible and can be used unchanged.

If you install JavaFIBS 2001 version 1.010 without a previous version, simply unzip the archive to any location in your file system. On the first start, JavaFIBS 2001 may emit verbose messages to your shell or system log facility. While they may look annoying, they are completely harmles and intended behaviour.

More detailed instructions on how to install and use JavaFIBS 2001 are included in the manual in the archive. Enjoy.

After the program started up, please create a login or use an existing one to log into FIBS. This first login for technical reasons will not be successful. Now quit the program, what will save new settings based on the default. Installation is complete now and you can work with the fresh install without further irregularities from now on.

JavaFIBS 2001 v1.009 is out (1.28 MB). It is compatible with Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Solaris and others. You will need Java 1.3+ installed on your computer to be able to use it. Instructions in how to install and use JavaFIBS 2001 is included in the manual in the archive.
The Button Converter is used to convert the programmable buttons from earlier versions of JavaFIBS2001 to the new v1.005+ format. Put it into the JavaFIBS2001 archive and run it before running the latest version if you are upgrading from a version older than v 1.005. Run it from a shell window or batch file like: "java ButtonConverter"

JavaFIBS (1.05). You will need a JVM/JDK/JRE to use it. Sorry for the lack of instructions and other documentations. They might show up later sometime. You can use the instructions for the applet in the mean time.

You can download it as a special  Windows EXE (selfextracting archive) file (285 kb). Read the "installation" notes above.
Here's JavaFIBS in a ordinary zip file (122 kb) for you on other platforms or those of you who prefer it.

A small install note for Windows users that use the .exe file. After you have extracted the archive, go to the startbar and bring up the properties for the JavaFIBS entry. You will see that it reads ' "unit:\dir\JavaFIBS" JavaFIBS' in the name line. Change this so it reads:

The rest of you are on your own for now. :) I'm sure Linux/Solaris/Unix users can sort this out themselves.
But it's mainly like: If you want to have sounds in JavaFIBS you will need to get some sounds for it. Here's a  sound archive that I've put together from various sounds. If you want to use your own sounds, you will need to convert them to .au format. To use the sounds, make a directory called sound in the same directory where the JavaFIBS program is installed. Then unzip the soundfile into that sound directory. All necessary directories will be created the first time you start JavaFIBS though, if you aren't sure how to do it yourself. Some experience crashes when sounds are ON on Windows. Try turning them off if you are experiencing problems. On Solaris the sounds works without problems.

From here you can download the Java JRE  you will need to use with JavaFIBS.
